@@bookbindig_studio I probably already have some of the tools from other hobbies, I didn’t buy any supplies for my first Coptic bound book, I just used things I already had. My second book (already started) will also be Coptic bound - hopefully better than the first. I’m using cartridge paper as it’s going to be a sketch book for my son. I like the way the books open flat, should be good for drawing. Just need to get the tension right, the last one was a bit tight so the top cover doesn’t quite lay flat.

      @bookbindig_studio  2 года назад +1

@@belindawallace5203 The Coptic binding can be difficult to master but it is true that the opening is 180 degrees and is ideal for sketchbooks. There is a very simple type of binding to make that also has a 180 degree opening, it is called Australian Binding. I am going to share two links to my other youtube channel where I show how to make these bindings, in case they are of interest to you! ruclips.net/video/OtmjU9K-nIQ/видео.html ruclips.net/video/2dbxqY964y4/видео.html

    I m impressed.
My old dad, continued, in his 70s, to bind books & restore old family albums & bibles for old folks in the community. And now i miss him so much. I've still got all his bookbinding equipment & materials. I often wish i'd learned more binding from my gentle dad, & after watching your vid, i shall go down to my loving dad's bookbinding corner in our basement, & attempt to bind me a journal.
ThanQ for your informative vid. And also for the gentle reminder.

    Thank you for your video.
Yesterday I made a "book" with your technique, but I was not well prepared.
I had some printed pages I wanted to bind together fast but it were like only 15 pages and I was impatient.
So I didn't glue them and let it dry first, I had a thread that was way to thick and no metal saw, only a woodsaw on a victorinox pocket knife.
Instead of your cutting technique I used a hole puncher for diskbinding which worked very well because it gave the thicker thread enough space to sit in.
And still, it is awesome and I am very happy. (=

Your explanation and teaching are excellent, excellent, excellent. I have a question about when you cut the places of the threads, what are the sizes, I mean here 3:32 and another question regarding the cover of the book: was it made of fabric, and if it was, was it a specific type or any type? Thank you very much.

Hello ! Thank you so much ! The cuts on the spine are approximate. You can leave 1.58" or 3cm in the width. The depth is approximately 5mm.
The covers are lined with this material amzn.to/3VwcP8u You can also use cotton fabric 👍

Interesting spine binding technique. I have not seen this one before, so thank you! One observation though: you obviously have all the skills and knowledge, and yet not a word about the crucial aspect - paper grain. Yours is all over the place and this book will warp with time. We cannot make a proper A5 book by folding standard printer A4 paper (or A4 out of A3 etc) because of grain direction 😢

Hello ! Thank you very much for your comment, you are right in what you say. However, I do not comment on the fiber of the paper because I try to bring this beautiful craft to as many people as possible. Going into these technicalities drives away many people who simply want to try to make a binding and people like you who know a little more about the paper. topic is something that they will take into account and know where to go to buy the right supplies! 😉 😃

    Great work of art!
Can you tell me if it's possible to use a sinthetic thread instead of linen/cotton thread for this bookbinding method?
I ask that because I have a waxed polyester thread at home.
Aside that, I have a really slim cotton thread (for sew machine) and a thick cotton twine, both with different thickness compared to the linen thread showed on the video.

Hello ! Yes, the polyester one works great! I use it to sew books, it is very resistant
